Is 2024 Going to be the Year of the “Girl’s Girl”

Welcome back Fashion Dolls,

Recently, I received the best compliment a woman could ask for from my friend, Hayden. We were sitting on the porch of my humble college home, talking about all the twists and turns we’ve accomplished in the last three years of college, and how we’ve grown from them. She called me a “girl’s girl”. It got me thinking is 2024 shaping up to be the ultimate year for embracing sisterhood and all things “girl’s girl”?

The term "girl's girl" encapsulates the spirit of sisterhood, emphasizing solidarity, support, and camaraderie among women. It's about fostering meaningful connections, celebrating each other's achievements, and championing the unique experiences of women from all walks of life.

First off, can we just acknowledge the vibe of sisterhood that’s been buzzing around lately? From motherhood support squads on TikTok to feminist activists on our college campus, it feels like women are coming together in ways that are totally uplifting. Whether it’s sharing makeup tips, supporting each other’s businesses, or just being there to laugh at each other’s memes, there’s something special about the bonds we’re forming in 2024.

2024 sees a renaissance in the appreciation of female friendships. In a society that often pits women against each other, there's a growing recognition of the importance of nurturing supportive relationships with other women. In 2023, we saw the saga of girl drama between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber, but I’ve noticed a shift this year. As a 22-year-old college girl navigating through life’s ups and downs, seeing all these women finally appreciate the “sisterhood” is comforting.

But it’s not just about online connections—real-life sisterhood is thriving too! I’ve seen it firsthand on my college campus, where women are supporting each other academically, socially, and emotionally. In the last year, I’ve had the privilege of being the Women in Business President on campus. The relationships I’ve seen blossom, while also giving all these college-aged women a place to learn about how to be a boss-lady, has been so fulfilling for me. I also see it everyday in my sorority house, Chi Omega. From study groups and late-night chats to spontaneous adventures and pep talks before exams, there’s a sense of camaraderie that’s impossible to ignore.

And let’s not forget about the whole self-love movement that’s been gaining momentum. I feel like we’ve finally evolved from #MeToo to #selflove. Not to say that #MeToo was something that I’m relieved is over, but now that we’ve all spread awareness and stood up for ourselves, we’ve finally come to a place where we can relish in our new-found modern day confidence and inner-peace. In 2024, it’s all about embracing our flaws, celebrating our uniqueness, and loving ourselves exactly as we are. Whether it’s through body-positive Instagram accounts, self-care rituals, or simply learning to speak kindly to ourselves, women everywhere are reclaiming their confidence and owning their worth.

But here’s the thing—I don’t think being a “girl’s girl” is just about being besties with other girls. It’s about supporting and uplifting all women, regardless of race, background, or identity. In 2024, I see us standing together as allies, amplifying each other’s voices, and fighting for equality in all its forms.
